Distillery (“we”, “us”) is a private AI study workspace operated by Mattr Deskware Ltd, trading as Distillery. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and who processes it on our behalf.
What we collect
- Account data — your email address, name, and profile details you provide during onboarding (role, institution, occupation). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
- Your content — documents, text, links, and audio you upload; flashcards, quizzes, and exam-prep material generated from them; chat messages; and writing samples you add to the Refinery.
- Usage data — counts of actions such as uploads, chat messages, and AI checks, used to enforce plan limits and prevent abuse.
- Billing data — handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number; we store only your Stripe customer ID and subscription status.
How your content is used
Your uploaded materials and messages are sent to AI providers to power Distillery’s features: Anthropic (chat, study material generation, writing analysis) and OpenAI (document embeddings and audio transcription). These providers process your content to return results and do not use API data to train their models per their API terms. Your content is never shared with other users or sold to anyone.
When you turn on web search in chat, your question may be used to run a web search via Anthropic’s search tool.
Where your data lives
Your account and content are stored with Supabase (database and file storage) in NORTH EU (Stockholm). Payments are processed by Stripe. We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit and row-level access controls so only you can access your content.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies: authentication session cookies from Supabase, and a local preference for your theme. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. Deleting a distillery, source, or your account removes the associated content from our database. To request full account deletion, contact us at hello@usedistillery.com.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us at hello@usedistillery.com to exercise them.
Children
Distillery is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We’ll post any changes to this policy here and update the date above. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
